Senior Business Intelligence Analyst

Job ref: CHA101018

At Checkatrade we are passionate about matching the best quality Trades in the UK, with Customers who are searching for a trusted, transparent and quality service. We have a significant ambition to expand in the UK, in both the number of Trades and Customers we serve. Our team at Checkatrade has developed over 20 years, and we are looking for individuals who put People first, are big on trust, do the right thing, go above and beyond and own exceptional service every time.

You will play a key role in developing, maintaining and evolving Checkatrade’s data warehouse and corporate business intelligence software to support the provision of a centralised reporting database and Visualisation tool.

  • Enhance the capability of CaT to produce meaningful, insightful, accurate and timely management information to support decision making, predominantly via self-serve through Power BI
  • To do this you will need to build an infrastructure and process allowing us to combine sporadic data sources together logically as well as working between teams to leverage different expertise
  • Assist the Head of D&I with the design and implementation of the BI strategy.  We should look at emerging technologies and find the best technology fit for CaT
  • Provide leadership to the other members of the D&I team and be their escalation point for queries relating to SQL, Power BI and Analytics.  Promote the ethos of the team creating ‘outcomes’ not ‘outputs’ and looking to conclude and recommend to the business
  • Introduce and run training sessions for Power BI (or other BI tool in use) for colleagues as necessary.  This should be the beginning of the development of a BI centre of excellence where we can promote the important role of data in Insight and provide governance around what we do
  • Proactively produce analysis that is insightful.  “What you didn’t realise you wanted to know”
  • Recommend new and exciting data sources that we could use to evaluate current performance and/or identify business opportunities
  • Identify any shortfalls in data quality and completeness and liaise with the relevant business areas to correct and fix the problem at source.  Work with the Group Risk Manager to understand, document and mitigate risks around data quality and decision making
  • Support the strategy of enhancing the BI reputation in CaT through clarity, consistency, quality and control
  • Demonstrate a continuous desire to learn and grow, achieved through regular use of company training platforms (such as pluralsight) and attendance of web seminars and relevant conferences where applicable
  • Experience of SSMS, SSIS, SQL Agents, Stored Procedures
  • Knowledge of a Big Data technology such as Hadoop, Oracle BigData
  • Desirable – knowledge of Google Analytics & Twilio

Working in Partnership

  • Builds solid, effective working relationships with others within a team environment
  • Demonstrate explicit care to protect all personal and confidential data and information you may encounter about employees, customers, members, suppliers (this list may not be exhausted) whether that data is held on computer or found in manual, paper systems

  • Leadership – Moves quickly, decisively and takes a well-founded point of view without being abrasive
  • Delivery – adheres to deadlines, achieves commitments and delivers on objectives and those of the team with the utmost focus on attention to detail
  • Organisation and planning – plans and organises in an effective manner focusing on the key priorities
  • Change – able to influence others into a way forward that benefits all involved
  • Collaborative – charts course with colleagues having sought and taken on board their views
  • Integrity – does what is right not what is politically expedient. Earns trust and maintain confidence
