JOB PURPOSE:

To deliver robust commercial results and analysis across all business departments and locations and upwards to Homeserve Plc. Be the expert and the key person the business looks to for commercial information and appropriate MI.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND MAIN DUTIES:

Review Management Accounts

  • Ensure review of management accounts meets reporting deadlines, and that accounts are accurate and fully understood by the leadership team
  • Recommend adjustments during the review process as necessary to the management accountant55 Co-deliver management accounts to senior management team (and other groups as required) each month
  • Provide high level financial analysis and other KPIs as agreed
  • Ensure all information, communication and delivery meets the needs of managers and adds value for business decisions
  • Provide additional strategic narrative on top of finance manager’s analysis of results and make recommendations accordingly
  • Ensure you, and all in your team, are fully aware of the explicit individual responsibility under the Company’s Data Protection policy to protect all personal and confidential data and information about employees, customers, members, suppliers (this list may not be exhaustive) whether that data is held on computer or found in manual, paper systems. Demonstrate and role-model care in all your dealings with such information and ensure this type of data is only held for a sound business reason

Finance Business Partnering

  • Support the production of the Monthly Business review, ensuring that performance is analysed and reported accurately and comprehensively
  • Help support the Homeserve Hyperion Financial Management monthly and annual forecast/budget submissions and liaise with Group Finance to ensure performance is understood for Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet, Cash flow and Key Performance Indicators
  • Support in producing the monthly forecast with appropriate and robust tracking to actual and MI, reporting variances as appropriate
  • Support the Annual Expenditure Budget is produced based on the strategic business plan
  • Ensure appropriate cost centre structure in place with cost centre managers clearly allocated responsibility for delivering their numbers as part of a team
  • Work closely with cost centre managers to track monthly actual results vs budget and forecast, and provide clear explanations of variances. Ensure remedial action to minimise any budget surplus/deficit
  • Understand the cost of acquiring and servicing Checkatrade members and compare actual to forecasts and budget
  • Provide sound commercial analysis on current and future products
  • Produce comprehensive routine and ad hoc reports to support the operational performance of the business which explain departments’ performance and how KPIs are tracking against expectations. Analyse key trends and monitor for issues

Supporting Business decisions

  • Be a valued Business Partner for the business and support them in decision making
  • Understand the cost of acquiring and servicing Checkatrade members and compare actual to forecasts and budgets
  • Provide sound commercial analysis on current and future products
  • Produce comprehensive routine and ad hoc reports to support the operational performance of the business which explain departments’ performance and how KPIs are tracking against expectations. Analyse key trends and monitor for issues
  • Work with internal partners to drive profitable solutions, improve existing products and processes and ensure new initiatives are viable and realised. For example, price trials, marketing efficiency using NPV techniques
  • Liaise with and support managers to understand the long-term and medium-term impact and effect of potential business decisions
  • Conduct cost/benefit analysis as required and supply accounting information for business projects as they arise
  • Drive clear financial outcomes which align with the business strategy
  • Identify inefficient processes and propose improvements

Management Information (MI)

  • Compile weekly MI data for all areas
  • Promptly flag any potential issues regarding extreme variance in activities versus business capacity, and notify stakeholders of possible business impact
  • Monitor and review trends within the cost base to ensure the efficiencies across the business, including product and trade level analysis, and distribution analysis of costs
  • Monitor the retention rate, mid-term cancellation levels, expired members, due to renew, lead to conversion and backlog activities in each area.

Working in Partnership

  • Develop and sustain great working relationships with the each department, and managers, learn their strategies and build their confidence in your commercial awareness and advice as a true Business Partner
  • Drive strong links and manage business relationships with all external stakeholders
  • Ensure all business communication is to a high standard with a clear cascade of information throughout the team
  • Challenge the ‘status quo’ across all areas of the business
  • Manage all aspects of the role to ensure that work is conducted with due skill, care and diligence. Ensure effective controls and risk management; delegate activities appropriately and to suitable people

  • Support business change (including to this role) and management initiatives.

Please note we are relocating our Head Office to North Harbour, Portsmouth in April 2019 but this role will be based between Selsey and Portsmouth until then.
