JOB PURPOSE:

To lead internal & external communications for Checkatrade, managing the messaging for Consumers, Trade Members and our own People. This is a new role for Checkatrade as we go through a period of considerable change and growth. Digital is at the heart of what we do, so experience across digital channels including social, online reputation management and SEO are key.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

Overall

  • Setting out the communications approach and gaining leadership approval
  • A focus on story telling & case studies designed to drive commercial objectives
  • Management of an external PR agency for projects and reactive media enquires
  • Developing a tone of voice strategy for the brand (long-term)
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with top tier UK journalists
  • Developing and maintaining trade and consumer press relationships
  • Working with Leadership Team to deliver Exec communications
  • Increase visibility for the brand across trade and consumer media titles
  • Manage media enquiries

Content

  • Own the Content plan; reporting and evaluation of conversion, search visibility, domain authority, organic rankings and engagements
  • Writing copy for all channels, press releases and reports including marketing campaigns to ensure consistent messaging

Digital Focus

  • Ensure all work undertaken is done so with SEO as a key consideration, working alongside the digital team
  • Responsibility for managing the proactive and reactive social media plan
  • Work with the social/marketing team to develop compelling content
  • Lead on outreach opportunities and increasing blogger engagement
  • Engage with online digital media and support the development of new and innovative ways of engaging with audiences via digital media
  • Online reputation management including Trust Pilot, LinkedIn and Glassdoor

Internal Communications

  • Create and manage an internal communications strategy
  • Overall Management of  internal communications activity including creating and owning internal comms interventions and channels
  • Owning and delivering People events
  • Ultimately, Ensure we can reach our People through channels that are consistent, effective and appropriate

About you  

  • Minimum of three years working in-house or for an agency specifically in PR / communications
  • Social and digital understanding is key
  • Experience of working in the sector not essential but preferred
  • Excellent communication, Creative, Confident, Organised, Enthusiastic, Adaptable, Resourceful & Working as Part of a Team
  • Willingness to get ‘stuck-in’ with ad-hoc work e.g. events, sponsorship activation
